LOS ANGELES (AP) ? NBC's talent show "The Voice" is jumping on Facebook's "timeline" app bandwagon to give fans another way to vote for their favorite contestants.

The new application allows viewers to cast votes for "Voice" singers and connect with friends and others watching the show, NBC and Facebook said Friday. Voting on live performances begins Monday.

The Facebook app for "The Voice" is intended to create "a fully social online voting experience," said Vivi Zigler, president of NBC Universal Digital Entertainment.

"We have been working very closely with Facebook to really build a social voting app that takes advantage of every whiz-bang, bell and whistle that Facebook has built for timeline," Zigler said.

Besides serving as a ballot box and a bridge between viewers, the "Voice" app will lead users to new content, including performance videos and blogs, NBC said.

In January, when Facebook unveiled about 60 new apps that let people share the smallest details of their lives on their profile, now known as their timeline, the company said it expected developers to create thousands more.

Originally dubbed "frictionless sharing" by Facebook, the apps allow a user's activity to be automatically shared through Facebook ? although people can limit who's able to see this activity when they sign up for the apps.

Nearly 3,000 apps have been launched in two months for websites ranging from The Onion to Nike to foodie site Foodily, Facebook said.

Making use of a timeline app for voting is innovative, said Justin Osofsky, director of platform partnerships at Facebook.

"The Voice," which features Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton as coaches, has seen a sharp increase in viewership in its second season and is drawing the young adult viewers prized by advertisers.

The organisation claimed that Rapidshare allows users to unlawfully acquire copyright material on a large scale and that the resulting loss to copyright holders is immense. Gema wanted to determine which obligations an online storage service has to copyright holders.

The court ruled on March 14, but the full verdict arrived at Gema and Rapidshare on Tuesday, a delay typical in the German legal system. After reading the verdict, both parties claim they are victorious.

Rapidshare emphasised that the court explicitly recognised the legality of Rapidshare?s business model and gave it legal legitimacy. Gema welcomed the court?s ruling that Rapidshare is still prohibited from making public the works of musicians represented by the organisation, but didn?t get its way on the measures the court ordered Rapidshare to take to prevent copyright infringement.

The copyright organisation had asked the court to order Rapidshare to scan files during the upload process, but the court took another approach, ruling that Rapidshare must actively monitor incoming links from external sites to the files it hosts and take down any illegal files thus identified.

This is exactly what Rapidshare has been doing for years, the company said. Rapidshare has an anti-abuse team that identifies illegal files that will be immediately blocked when spotted.

Nevertheless, Rapidshare plans to appeal that part of the ruling because the company should not be obliged to carry out such measures, Rapidshare CEO Alexandra Zwingli said.

For those who haven't been following along at home, when Madonna took the stage to introduce Avicii, she asked the room, "How many people in this crowd have seen Molly?" That reference angered 'mau5, who took to his Facebook to call out Madonna for seemingly linking dance music and drug use, a persistent stereotype.

Eventually, the two settled the argument when Madonna took to Twitter, explaining that she was actually referring to the song "Have You Seen Molly" by Cedric Gervais, not the drug. deadmau5 seemed fine with her clarification, and all was cool between the once-beefing twosome.

When MTV News caught up with one of Madge's MDNA producers, fellow EDM DJ Martin Solveig, he weighed in on the short-lived, yet headline-making, tiff.

"She's a lot more ironical than a lot of people think, and ... she has this dry sense of humor, which sometimes makes her say or do things that are a little bit shocking, which is also the reason why everyone loves her," he said of Madge.

Solveig also showed support to 'mau5 (real name Joel Zimmerman).

"Joel probably read the whole thing a bit more first-degree and was a little bit angry, and there's nothing wrong with that," he continued. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a report Thursday (March 29) that looked at data gathered in 2008 from 14 communities, including central North Carolina.

The new data show that autism rates in the U.S. are higher than previous estimates released in 2009, which found 1 in 110 children were diagnosed with autism or a related disorder. The latest figures also show that autism spectrum disorders are almost five times more common among boys than girls with 1 in 54 boys identified.

Julie Daniels, Ph.D., a researcher at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill who collaborated on the CDC study, said autism prevalence in North Carolina is higher than previously estimated and slightly higher than the national average. The estimate for the state was 1 in 70 children, with a rate of 1 in 43 boys and 1 in 196 girls.

"This report shows the magnitude of the condition across our country and in North Carolina," said Daniels, associate professor of epidemiology and maternal and child health in the Gillings School of Global Public Health and principal investigator for the North Carolina site of the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network. The N.C. arm of the network is a collaboration between the Gillings School and the state's public health and education agencies.

The prevalence estimates are based on children who were 8 years old in 2008.

Daniels also noted that number of children identified with autism spectrum disorder in central North Carolina and across other sites in the U.S. had increased since researchers began tracking the data in 2002.

In contrast to previous years, the rate among black children caught up with and was now similar to the rate among white children. The rate among Hispanic children still remained lower.

Tello, a Palo Alto start-up, has created a SaaS and mobile application to help customers communicate with businesses easier and faster.

Joe Beninato, Tello founder and CEO, created the service so consumers could give feedback in real-time to large retailers, airlines, hotels, small businesses and restaurants. Some have called Tello an example of when Twitter meets Yelp, Beninato said. The feedback is meant to be short and sweet ? although users can write more than 140 characters.

The startup launched in 2010 is backed by 14 investors including 500 Startups and True Ventures. Beninato was inspired to start Tello after seeing a truck bumper sticker that said, ?How Am I Driving?? followed by a 1-800 number. But how many people actually call that number? Beninato says more people will review businesses if the processes to do so are streamlined.

iOS users can download the Tello app and create a username to provide quick feedback. Smartphone users can also text businesses, and businesses can respond via text. Reviewers only need to write a sentence or two and can add a thumbs-up or thumbs-down, Beninato said.

?If you look at an airline, when you are traveling you communicate with all sorts of people ?baggage, airline, the cab driver ? any step along the way you can pull out your phone to give feedback,? he said.

Customers can read the reviews, but Tello wants businesses to be more involved with customer reviews. Unlike Yelp, Tello requires business to sign up for the service. The idea is businesses can respond quickly to feedback and can improve their services based on the customers? wants. Businesses can register up to three profiles on Tello for free. Premium Tello is available for $99 per month.

So far, Tello has relied on word-of-mouth to spread the word about their service. The company has not released numbers on how many people are using the service, but Beninato said lots of people in Palo Alto area are using the service and there are users in all 50 states. About 80% of the feedback has been positive, Beninato said.

?If businesses care about their customers and want to be able to respond in real-time, then Tello is what they need,? Beninato said.

Cisco RV110W Wireless-N VPN Firewall

The Cisco RV110W Wireless-N VPN Firewall offers security-conscious small businesses an easy-to-set-up box that functions as a router, firewall, VPN server, and a wireless access point all in one. Features
The key selling point for the RV110W is its built-in support for a VPN server. Deploying VPN usually means investing in a more expensive router or other specialized hardware, so getting a VPN router for $99 or less is quite a bargain.

As a VPN server, RV110W supports both PPTP and QuickVPN. PPTP is the easier connection protocol as it is supported by Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and even iOS devices. The App Store has PPTP clients for Apple?s iPads and iPhones.

Another impressive feature in the RV110W: it supports IPv6 out of the box. Businesses thinking about updating their networks to use the newer Internet address standard want IPv6-certified products. Considering that most modern operating systems have IPv6 support built-in, a router that supports the standard makes the transition much smoother.

For wireless connectivity, RV110W broadcasts on 2.4 GHz-band. Looking for the higher 5 GHz-band? Look elsewhere. Being single-band is not a huge drawback for the RV110W, since many business routers still don?t offer dual-band wireless, but it would have been nice to have.

The Hardware
The Cisco RV110W has one WAN port for Internet connectivity and four LAN ports in the back. There are two external antennas on the back for wireless networking. Square and compact, it has four rubber feet on the bottom to stand-alone or can be wall-mounted. There?s even a lock on the side to physically secure the router in place.

The square and compact box measures 1.18? x 5.91? x 5.91? (HWD) and weighs a mere 0.61 lbs. The black box is pretty nondescript, except for the glossy front panel with indicator lights for power, wireless activity, Internet connectivity, and for each of the four LAN ports. The front panel also has a button for Wi-Fi Protected Setup that makes it adding Wi-Fi clients to the network a snap.

The router offers at most 100Mbps over its wired network as none of the four ports support Gigabit Ethernet. While Gigabit Ethernet is not yet a must-have on most business routers, the increasing number of applications, file-sharing, and video streaming within the office makes it a should-have.

Setup
Unlike other similarly priced Cisco routers, the RV110W does not come with the Cisco Connect software for setup. Instead, I followed the printed Quick Start Guide to connect the firewall and configure the wireless network. When I logged into the Device Manager to finish the process, the Web interface automatically launched a Setup Wizard to collect configuration information. The entire process took less than 10 minutes.

I was impressed that Cisco put in some effort in the wizard to make the router secure. In one of the tests, I tried to quit the setup wizard since the router is configured as a basic gateway by default. The Device Manager forced me to change the admin account?s default password before quitting.

Cisco also requires the password to be strong. When I tried to disable the ?strong password strength? rule in order to set up a weak password, Device Manager displayed messages warning me about the risks. Many routers are vulnerable because the user forgot to change the default password or had set weak ones.

When configuring the wireless network, the wizard prompted me to turn on wireless encryption on the network, such as WPA Personal with TKIP/AES or the stronger WPA2 Personal with AES. Considering that open wireless networks expose users to man-in-the-middle attacks and packet sniffing, I appreciated the wizard selected encryption by default. In fact, when I tried to set up an open wireless network, the wizard displayed warning messages.

The wizard takes care of assigning IP addresses, setting the time, configuring the gateway, and turning on the wireless network. All the other configuration tasks are available in a menu on the Device Manager?s left pane. Clicking on the menu name, such as Firewall, VPN, Wireless, Networking, and Status displayed all the tasks available. After I turned on VPN, I could see when a user was connected to the network. I found it effortless to navigate and understand.

Cisco released the latest firmware update in the middle of testing. After copying the downloaded file to a USB key, it was a snap to upload the firmware to the router using the Web interface.

PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) ? Sean Payton lists Bill Parcells as his mentor. These days, the New Orleans Saints coach may need that support more than ever.

Facing a season-long suspension for his role in the Saints' bounties program, Payton planned to meet with Parcells, his former boss, on Tuesday, a conversation that will include who will coach New Orleans this coming season.

Speaking Tuesday morning at the NFL meetings, Payton said he talks regularly with Parcells, and has sought his counsel often throughout this process. He added that he, general manager Mickey Loomis ? who is facing an eight-game suspension ? and team owner Tom Benson are weighing a number of scenarios, and Payton said a decision whether he will appeal the suspension is likely in the next "two to three" days.

"We've gone through just an early, between Mickey, myself, Mr. Benson, just an early synopsis of what our options would be," Payton said. "We'll continue to do that when we get back to Metairie. Even this morning some, we're going to have some breakfast and discuss that matter. Fortunately, we feel like we've got a number of good candidates. The trick then is what it does to affect their roles that they currently have."

One role Payton is certain about: He's "100 percent" confident he will coach the Saints in 2013.

Parcells led the New York Giants to two Super Bowl victories, is a mentor to Payton, and hired Payton as an offensive assistant in Dallas in 2003.

"You're asking me what are his great strengths?" Payton said. "And I would say to you he's a great teacher. Certainly I'm biased, having worked with him. But he's a Hall of Fame head coach. And I would also say there's some things probably set up in the framework of our program that would be exactly how he would have set those things up had he been the head coach here in '06. So there's some carry-over that way."

Payton spoke for about 18 minutes on Tuesday, remaining composed throughout. He talked about the disappointment that for the first time since his first season playing football as a kid 39 years ago he may miss a season.

"You go through a range of emotions that kind of hit you," the 48-year-old Payton said. "You're disappointed. You're disappointed in yourself that it got to this point. I think we're trained as coaches to begin preparation right away. I find myself reflecting on it, and you go through a lot of emotions."

The NFL's investigation found that Payton initially lied to league investigators about the program, at first denying its existence, and also instructed his defensive assistants to lie. Payton twice has apologized for his role in the bounty system that offered payouts for big hits on opponents, saying he takes "full responsibility" for the program that operated for three years under his watch.

Commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday that if Payton appeals the suspension, he could remain as coach during the process.

"I said in a letter they have to appeal by April 2, I believe," Goodell said. "If he decides to appeal, I probably will allow him to continue and I would expedite the hearing and I would expedite my decision."

Asked if Payton's punishment was as much for lying to him as it was for the actual bounties program, Goodell spoke about a pattern of untruths.

"This is a violation of a very serious rule," Goodell said. "We have made player health and safety very clear as a priority. During the process of when this first was raised two years ago, there were denials. They were not forthright and that continued through our investigation.

"This is something with zero tolerance and is not acceptable."

The league also slapped a six-game suspension on assistant head coach Joe Vitt, who also coaches linebackers and was a potential choice to fill in for Williams.

Former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who left the Saints after last season to join the St. Louis Rams, ran the bounty program and has been suspended indefinitely. Goodell also fined the Saints $500,000 and took away second-round draft choices in 2012 and 2013.

Payton was asked if he felt the Saints were being punished too severely.

"No, I accept this," Payton said. "I've heard that argument and I think trying to really look closely at how we and how I can improve has been probably a better way for me to handle this than to kind of vent or look outwardly at other programs. I try to take that approach."
