lease vs finance purchase price - AudiWorld Forums

Quote:

While this question does not pertain to my A6, I thought I would pose it here anyway. My wife is looking at the Infiniti JX and I am curious if the negotiated purchase price of the vehicle (relevant in either scenario) would tend to be lower if I was buying or leasing, or should this have no effect? Somewhat related, has anyone used truecar.com? They seem to have great negotiated pricing.

as snagitseven said, the price is the price. You will usually get a much more affordable monthly payment if you go with the lease simply because you are paying only for the car's value that you drive. So if the residual value is higher that's better for you if you plan on getting a new car on lease after let's say 3 years.

However, for individuals leasing is less recommended (at least IMO) because you are locked in for your lease term and you don't own a car. The advantage to lease is for some (like me) where you can deduct some of the lease as a business expense if you own your business.

To understand how lease is calculated and how your negotiated price can affect your lease numbers look here:

http://www.edmunds.com/car-leasing/c...e-payment.html

But I went on too much in different direction. The point is lease or buy, your negotiated price is the same and is taken as a basis for calculating your purchase or lease terms.

Also, to help you out.. My A6 I just picked up was $57,500 or something like that MSRP.. My negotiated price was $52,900. Then we took that number and calculated the lease (I took 36months / 10k miles as I don't drive as much as other people do). It wouldn't have mattered if I purchased or leased.

The Journal of Visualized Experiments

On March 27thJoVE (Journal of Visualized Experiments) will publish a new video article by Dr. Lotfi Merabet showing how researchers in the Department of Ophthalmology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Harvard Medical School have developed a virtual gaming environment to help blind individuals improve navigation skills and develop a cognitive spatial map of unfamiliar buildings and public locations.

For the blind, finding your way or navigating in a place that is unfamiliar presents a real challenge, Dr. Merabet explains. "As people with sight, we can capture sensory information through our eyes about our surroundings. For the blind that is a real challenge the blind will typically use auditory and tactile cues."

The technique utilizes computer generated layouts of public buildings and spatial sensory feedback to synthesize a virtual world that mimics a real world navigation task. In the game, participants must find jewels and carry them out of the building, without being intercepted by roaming monsters that steal the jewels and hide them elsewhere. Participants interface with the virtual building by using a keyboard and wearing headphones that play auditory cues that help spatially orient them to the world around them. This interaction helps users generate an accurate mental layout of the mimicked building. Dr. Merabet and his colleagues are also exploring applications of this technology with other user interfaces, like a Wii Remote or joystick.

"We have developed software called ABES, the Audio Based Environment Simulator that represents the actual physical environment of the Carol Center for the Blind in Newton Massachusetts. The participants will use the game metaphor to get a sense of the whole building through open discovery, allowing people to learn room layouts more naturally than if they were just following directions."

The technology will invariably be useful for the 285 million blind people world-wide, 6 million of which live in the United States. It will also have applications beyond the blind community for individuals with other visual impairments, cognitive deficits, or those recovering from brain injuries.

Dr. Merabet considers publication in JoVE's video format especially helpful. "It is conceptually difficult for a sighted person to understand 'a video game for blind people.' What JoVE allows us to do is break down layouts of the game and strategy, show how the auditory cues can be used and how we quantify performance going from the virtual game to the physical world."

Fly Or Die: Albumatic

Screen Shot 2013-03-24 at 4.32.45 PMIn a land where entrepreneurs are struggling desperately to integrate location into the worldwide photo-sharing phenomenon, Albumatic may have swooped in just in time. Ventures like Color and others have tried and failed, and not for lack of funding, to let users enjoy location-based events by sharing photos with each other around that specific event. However, it turns out that sharing photos with strangers, whether you find yourself in the same location or not, doesn't attract users as much as you'd think.

Rihanna drops in on Chicago-area high school

(AP) ? Pop star Rihanna has dropped in on high school students in a northwestern Chicago suburb.

Barrington High School earned Friday's visit as a reward for winning the singer's "Shine Bright Like a Diamond" video contest.

The five-minute, student-produced video highlighted the school's volunteer and community service programs.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports (http://bit.ly/10wxpTC ) that the singer told students she admired their passion and volunteerism.

Rihanna showed up more than five hours late, but some in the crowd said she was worth the wait.

She also posed for photos before heading off to her Friday night concert at Chicago's United Center.

Barrington freshman Nisha Ali says "the fact that she came here and thanked us was a huge deal."

Eric Schmidt says Google Now for iOS hinges upon Apple (update: Apple responds)

Google Now for iOS leak

Sometimes, it's what you don't say that matters. When asked at Google's Big Tent Summit about when Google Now might show on the iPhone, the company's Eric Schmidt told a questioner that he'll "need to discuss that with Apple," and that there was no certainty Apple would approve what Google sent. Conspicuously non-committal? You bet -- but the statement also suggests that a Google Now release is just a question of whether or not Apple gives the thumbs up, not whether the iOS port exists at all. We'd add that the remarks sound eerily familiar. Schmidt was saying similar things about Apple's responsibility when he downplayed the odds of a stand-alone Google Maps release for iOS, and we all know how that turned out. Skip forward to about 17:50 in the video at the source link for Schmidt's own words.

Update: And the plot thickens. CNET is reporting that Apple hasn't received a Google Now iOS app submission as of yet. C'mon guys -- the queue can't be that long.
